Do not send your CV to lots of agencies. Select a small number of agencies that you believe can help locate a suitable position for your area of expertise. |

Call each agency in advance and establish how professional they are. Ask (a) how they operate, (b) are they willing to meet with you, etc. |

When you meet a consultant, insist that the consultant goes through your CV in detail and ask for comments. It should take approximately 30 minutes to thoroughly work through your CV, career plans, type of position, salary and benefits, location etc. |

Insist that the agency Does not send your CV to a client without your permission - remember the agency is providing a service to YOU, not the other way around. |

Insist on getting all the facts on the position/company before you allow your CV to be put forward, i.e. the name and type of company; length established, no. of people, type of position, job description etc. |

If the agency calls you about a position and will not name the company, then DO NOT let your CV be put forward. |

Do not let the consultant persuade you to go for an interview "for experience", this is generally not a good idea because it could rule you out of a future position that you may be suitable for. |

Before you go for an interview, ask the agency to provide you with interview tips, or better still go and meet the consultant and have them help you prepare - remember "Preparation is Key". |
